A ministry task force headed by Deputy Interior Minister Vasyl Farynnyk has departed to the scene of the accident.

The death toll from Tuesday’s collision between a train and a passenger bus in Dnipropetrovsk region has risen to 38, with 12 more people injured, the media liaisons office of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry told Interfax-Ukraine on Tuesday.

"At the order of the Ukrainian interior minister, a ministry task force headed by Deputy Interior Minister Vasyl Farynnyk immediately left for the scene," the office said, adding that the group includes the chief of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry’s State Automobile Inspectorate, Valeriy Lozovy, and experts from the ministry’s research center.

The police said that the traffic police would strictly monitor the movement of vehicles at railroad crossings and step up checks on the safety of vehicles involved in passenger transportation.
