Minsk - Belarus will do its utmost to develop relations with Ukraine, the president's press office told Interfax after a session of the country's Security Council in Minsk on Tuesday.

The meeting focused on the political situation in Ukraine and its impact on the state of Belarusian national security.

“It was specifically stressed at the session that while Belarus is
not seeking a leading role in settling the Ukrainian conflict, it will
do its utmost to maintain and develop its relations with our fraternal
neighbor state,” the press office said.

“Preservation and further development of our political, trade and
economic, and cultural ties with Ukraine are still among our country’s
priorities,” the press office added.

“It was pointed out at the session that the events occurring in
Ukraine are posing no direct threat to the Republic of Belarus. Our
country is keen on seeing civil peace, calm and stability set in
Ukraine,” the press office said.
