The Russian Foreign Ministry has demanded that Kyiv stop shelling Russian territory and ensure security for international observers.

“We demand that Kyiv stop shelling the Russian Federation’s sovereign
territory and ensure the security of international observers,” the
ministry said in a statement on its website on July 29.

Officers from the Russian checkpoint of Gukovo came under targeted
fire with the use of grenade launchers and assault rifles by Ukrainian
troops on July 29, the ministry said.

“The checkpoint received new damage in addition to the damage it
sustained earlier from fire by Ukrainian government forces,” it said.

“It looks like Kyiv is apparently worried by an OSCE observer mission
being deployed in the Gukovo checkpoint area, which is aimed at
monitoring the situation at the Russian-Ukrainian border,” it said.
