Moscow - The Russian Foreign Ministry has reiterated the need to conduct an objective and impartial investigation into the July 17 crash of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 in eastern Ukraine and has reaffirmed the importance of international efforts to ensure the security of experts in charge of this inquiry.

“The Russian side has emphasized the need to conduct a thorough,
objective and impartial investigation of the reasons behind this air
crash. It also reaffirmed the importance of international efforts under
UN auspices in order to ensure the security of experts who will carry
out such an investigation at the crash site,” the ministry said on its
website following a meeting of Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory
Karasin and UK Ambassador to Russia Timothy Barrow in Moscow on Friday, July 25.

The Russian diplomat also extended condolences to the ambassador over the death of UK citizens in the Malaysian Boeing crash.

The sides also said that it is important to implement the agreements,
including the June 2 Berlin Declaration, aimed at securing a ceasefire
in Ukraine’s eastern regions.

“It was confirmed that Russia’s fundamental position remains
unchanged concerning the absence of any alternative to settling the
Ukrainian crisis exclusively through peaceful and diplomatic methods and
establishing direct dialogue between the authorities in Kyiv and
representatives in southeastern Ukraine for these purposes,” the
ministry said.
