New York - Russia's permanent envoy to the United Nations urged UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Sept. 19 to evaluate the United Nations' role in investigating the crash of Malaysian Airlines MH17 in Ukraine.

“We consider it important that the UN secretary-general should organize a review and an assessment of assistance in the investigations and report this to the Security Council, including for the purpose of taking measures to assist in the investigations,” Churkin said at the Security Council.

“In its Resolution 1299, the Security Council asked the secretary-general to propose options for the organization of assistance in the investigations and to make progress reports on developments,” Churkin said.

“Unfortunately, so far we haven’t see any such options, just as we haven’t seen any initiative on the part of the secretariat to take initiative in providing any assistance in the international investigations,” he said.
