You're reading: Moscow warns Kyiv against using force against people in southeastern Ukraine

Moscow - Moscow is urging Kyiv not to commit criminal mistakes by using force against its own people in the southeastern part of Ukraine. "Moscow is extremely concerned about media reports on the Kyiv regime's intention to carry out a special assault operation in the southeastern regions of the country, not to mention the use of the ultra-nationalist Right Sector's units," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement available on its website.

“If such irresponsible and aggressive steps are taken by the current ‘Ukrainian government’, they could lead to disastrous consequences. Punitive measures against their own people would attest to the Kyiv leaders’ inability to comply with their commitments under the Geneva statement of April 17, 2014 in favor of the soonest possible ending of any violence and the start of a broad national dialogue involving all regions and political forces,” it said.

“We are calling on Kyiv, as well as the U.S. and the EU indulging it, which have signed the Geneva agreements, not to commit criminal mistakes and soberly assess the gravity of possible consequences of using force against the Ukrainian people,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
