Member of Parliament Oleh Kanivets (out of faction) has proposed the depositors of the former USSR Sberbank be provided with compensation from the national budget to buy medicines.

“First of all, the bill is aimed at helping vulnerable Ukrainians, especially those who feel serious problems with the purchase of expensive medicines that are sometimes vital,” he told Interfax-Ukraine, when commenting on his bill on amending the law on state guarantees for the renewal of deposits of Ukrainian citizens.

The MP explained that the bill foresees the possibility of permitting the depositors of the former USSR Sberbank to receive compensation from the national budget to buy medicines.

“However, to ensure the gradual pace of deposit recovery, as well as neutralize potential abuse, the draft law sets the maximum size of a one-time payment – 120 non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens. In addition, it foresees reimbursement for the cost of medicines purchased in pharmacies by prescription and included in the state register of medicines in Ukraine,” the deputy explained.
