In particular, according to Nalyvaichenko, the Alfa soldiers will participate in international operations near Somalia.

“Alfa will be in operational readiness,” he said. American uniforms have been bought for them, and they use modern weapons, he said.

“They will be armed according to NATO standards… onboard international ships with UN status, armed and with the knowledge of foreign languages,” Nalyvaichenko said.

Alfa will participate in international operations fighting against piracy at the order of Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko, the security service chief said.
