You're reading: National Forum of Trade Unions of Ukraine: Rise in social standards without creation of new jobs to bring unemployment

The law on a rise in social standards should have been adopted simultaneously with an economic program to secure these standards by clearly determining the sources of financing of salaries and foreseeing a plan for the creation of new jobs, Chairman of the National Forum of Trade Unions of Ukraine Myroslav Yakybchuk has said.

As the press service of the National Forum of Trade Unions of Ukraine reported, he was commenting on the adoption of the law on a rise in the living wage and the minimum wage.

“The trade unions always support a rise in social standards, but it should really be secured and correspond to the needs of working people, and not the logic of politicians in an election campaign. The thoughtless adoption of this law without a program to secure it economically, without a clear plan for the creation of new jobs, could bring a new wave of unemployment. While before we forecast that about half a million people could lose their jobs, then now this number could double,” he said.
