You're reading: NATO sees excellent opportunities for partnership with Ukraine

NATO wants to have good relations between Ukraine and Russia, Director of the NATO Information and Documentation Center in Kyiv Natalia Nemyliwska has said.

"Good relations between partners are making our world safer," she said, while opening the first Ukraine-Russia-NATO forum, entitled "Cooperation with NATO: Benefits for Ukraine and Russia," in Kyiv on Monday.

Nemyliwska said that this was one of the main ideas "behind NATO partnership."

She also recalled the alliance’s position concerning Ukraine’s decision on its non-aligned status.

"I want to reiterate that we fully respect this decision. We recognize the sovereign right of each country to freely choose an approach to the organization of its security," Nemyliwska said.

She noted that now more than ever before there is an opportunity for developing a partnership between Ukraine and NATO, especially at a time when all countries are facing many challenges such as the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, cyber security, piracy, etc.
