Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev will pay an official visit to Ukraine on Dec. 22, the presidential press service said on Dec. 19.

He will negotiate with the Ukrainian administration during the visit, it noted.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has described Nazarbayev’s visit to Ukraine as timely and important. “Poroshenko invited Nazarbayev to visit Ukraine on Monday. The Kazakh president accepted the invitation and said they would use the occasion to discuss a broad range of bilateral issues, including economic cooperation and trade,” Poroshenko said in his telephone conversation with Nazarbayev last Friday night.

Nazarbayev said earlier at the end of his negotiations with French President Francois Hollande in Astana, “We would like to find points of contact for settling this crisis, which is not helping anyone but is leading to deterioration of the international political situation and harming the economy of not only Europe and Asia but also the world at large.”

“We think it is possible to reach compromises. For my part, I am ready for Kazakhstan taking an effort and the French president supports our efforts in this field. I think that the good will and the wish to resolve this situation will win and common sense will play a bigger role,” the Kazakh leader stated.

Hollande said, “An agreement has been reached with Nazarbayev to use the trips, mechanisms and platforms of the dialogue for reducing tensions, preserving the territorial integrity of Ukraine, guaranteeing a certain degree of autonomy to the eastern regions of Ukraine and doing so that the Ukrainian economy starts to recover from this grave situation while the ceasefire agreement will be observed.”
