The Council of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) will consider the appointment of the new deputy governors of the central bank in the next few days, the NBU has told Interfax-Ukraine.

“The decision will be made in the next few days,” a bank representative said.

According to the NBU, it is proposed that current Director General of the NBU’s Department of Banking Supervision Oleksiy Tkachenko and Head of the State Export-Import Bank of Ukraine Mykola Udovychenko be appointed deputy governors of the central bank.

A source in the government told the agency that a meeting of the NBU Council was scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 24, but due to the holding of the World Economic Forum in Davos (Switzerland) there arose difficulties with the quorum and the meeting could be postponed until another day.

As reported, on Jan. 11, the Verkhovna Rada appointed Ihor Sorkin as NBU governor. He previously worked as deputy head of the central bank.

By law, the head of the central bank appoints and dismisses his deputies upon agreement with the NBU Council.
