You're reading: Netherlands considers air defense rocket as likeliest cause of Malaysian Boeing crash

MOSCOW - The Public Prosecution Service of the Netherlands is still examining a theory whereby the Malaysian Boeing was shot down in Ukraine by a Russian Buk rocket, but to say that the parts discovered earlier were precisely of this system would be premature, Public Prosecution Service spokesman Wim de Bruin said.

“We are still investigating this theory but at this point it is too soon to make conclusions as to what type of metal it was,” he told Interfax.

The spokesman added that the investigators are leaning towards the theory that the plane was shot down by a surface-to-air rocket.

“I can only reiterate that the likeliest scenario is the one where MH17 was shot down from the ground,” the official said.

The scenario where the plane was shot down from the air is “yet another theory we are also investigating,” he said.
