Ukraine is considering a change of its non-aligned status, the country's Acting President and Verkhovna Rada Chairman Oleksandr Turchynov said.

“Today this issue is very pressing, and Ukraine is in talks over creation of conditions to prevent any nation from wanting to conduct aggression against our state,” Turchynov told reporters in the village of Novi Petrivtsi (Kyiv region) on March 31, when asked whether Ukraine could remain a non-aligned state.

“This is the task facing our foreign ministry, our parliament and government. I am convinced that we shall cope with these tasks, but we must first of all understand that we must have armed forces, we must have a national guard – strong, mobile and ready to defend Ukraine,” Turchynov said.
