You're reading: New criminal proceedings opened over attacks on reporters in Crimea

The law enforcement authorities have opened a number of other criminal proceedings over attacks on reporters in Crimea and obstructing their work, the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office press office said in a statement on March 9. 

The obstruction of work of a correspondent of the Russian Planet on-line newspaper is being investigated, the press office said. “This person has been beaten by unidentified individuals near the entrance to the A2355 air defense military unit in the city of Sevastopol,” the statement said.

Police have opened proceedings under the Ukrainian Criminal Code Article 171 Part 2, obstructing lawful work activities of reporters.

Proceedings have been opened under Article 171 Part 2 and Article 187 Part 2, robbery, over the attacks on reporters of the Inter TV channel and the Katmiria newspaper. These journalists have been robbed near the military unit No. 2253, the statement said.

It is planned to merge these proceedings and to send them to the Interior Ministry department in Sevastopol, the press officesaid.

It has been reported that unidentified armed individuals had attacked reporters of the Newspaper in Ukrainian Style and EasternVariant.
