You're reading: New sanctions package against Russia to come into effect on Sept 12

Brussels - The European Council will release a further package of restriction measures regarding Russia on Sept. 12 and they will come into effect immediately after publication, the EU committee of permanent representatives decided on Sept. 11.

The decision has been made and it will soon be announced officially, a diplomatic source in European Council in Brussels told Interfax on Sept. 11.

It has been reported that new measures to expand the sanctions list
of private individuals – whom the European Union considers to be
involved in supporting the annexation of Crimea by Russia and the
actions of the militia in eastern Ukraine – and also introduce
additional restrictions on Russia in such sectors as access to capital
markets, defense industry, dual-purpose products and sensitive
technology.

Details will follow in a legislative act, which will be released in the EU’s Official Journal.
