United States Ambassador to Ukraine John Tefft has said that next U.S. Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt will arrive in Ukraine in August 2013.

According to Tefft, the U.S. Senate has approved Pyatt’s candidacy on Tuesday, July 9.

“As you know the Senate has affirmed his candidacy. He (Geoffrey Pyatt) is yet to carry out certain tasks in the U.S.,” Tefft told journalists in Kyiv on Wednesday.

“I am most likely to leave the country on July 29 and we expect him to arrive here in August,” the diplomat said.

Tefft has been the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine since November 2009.

Before his appointment Pyatt stated that he intended to urge the Ukrainian government to take immediate actions in order to use its historic opportunity to integrate with the European Union and fulfill the EU’s requirements for the signing of the Association Agreement. He also stressed that he would let Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych know that Ukraine will not manage to get closer to the EU if former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is not released from prison.
