A number of Ukrainian NGOs insist on the calling of early parliamentary elections in Ukraine no later than July.

This a the conclusion made by the “Reanimation Reforms Package”
initiative that includes the “Opora” civil network, the Committee of
Voters of Ukraine, the CentreUA Center for Political Studies and
Analyses, the Election Law Institute, the Centre for Political and Legal
Reforms and theUkrainian Center for Independent Political Research.

“The biggest problem of the parliament is it’s failure to represent
electoral groups, as the groups that reflected public opinion in 2012
have been reformed, and a large part of the MPs don’t represent voters’
interests,” reads the initiative’s statement obtained by
Interfax-Ukraine news agency.

“Early elections of Ukrainian MPs must be announced as soon as at the
end of June – beginning of July 2014. The decision by newly-elected
president will establish the efficiency of Verkhovna Rada’s work and
whether it will restore its status as a democratic political
institution,” reads the statement.

According to the statement, the current convocation isn’t capable of
making decisions by itself, and MPs immunity has been used in order to
avoid liability for stirring up hatred and calls to bring down the
state.

“Civil network ‘Reanimation Reforms Package’ urges the parliament to
adopt new edition of the law ‘On the elections of MPs in Ukraine,'”
reads the statement.

According to NGOs, new edition of the law must be based on standards
foreseen by documents of the Council of Europe. Particularly, such a law
must include a pluralistic election model, measures on financial
transparency of election subjects and suggestion regarding political
representation of indigenous people of Ukraine and gender equality
during election process.

In turn, “Reanimation Reforms Package” is ready to assist in this matter.
