You're reading: Norway denies asylum to Gaddafi’s nurse Kolotnytska

The Norwegian authorities have refused to grant asylum to Halyna Kolotnytska, a Ukrainian nurse of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, the Norwegian News Agency (NTB) reported on Tuesday, citing its sources.

At the same time, the agency said that Kolotnytska could be allowed to remain in Norway if the country’s law enforcement authorities consider the information possessed by the nurse to be "of national interest."

It became known on May 5 that Kolotnytska, who worked as Gaddafi’s nurse for eight years, was seeking asylum in Norway.

Norwegian immigration lawyer Arvid Humlen said that the asylum application was unlikely to be granted. However, he said that Kolotnytska could be given permission to stay in Norway due to "additional threats" such as the risk of being targeted by Libyan agents.

Earlier, the Security Service of Ukraine said that it was not planning to take any action against Kolotnytska, as she was not in violation of Ukrainian law.
