You're reading: Odesa Regional Council declares Russian regional language

ODESA – Odesa Regional Council has declared the Russian language a regional language under the law of Ukraine on the principles of the state language policy.

Deputies of the regional council approved this decision at a special sitting on Wednesday, Aug. 15.

The regional council also proposed councils of villages and towns to
approve the same decision so as to use Russian as a regional language.

Odesa Regional Council also instructed the regional administration to
foresee in the regional budget for 2013 expenditures on the
implementation of the language law of Ukraine.

As reported, earlier Odesa City Council declared the Russian language a regional language on the territory of the city.
