The European Commission has drafted proposals for Russia on reaching an interim solution to the gas dispute with Ukraine, Guenther Oettinger, EC vice president, said at a meeting with Energy Community ministers in Kyiv.

Oettinger said the proposals would be discussed on Friday, Sept. 26. They involve receiving gas from Russia at a fair market price and at an interim price within the EU and beyond.

A trilateral meeting on gas issues between Ukraine, the EU and Russia is due to take place on Sept. 26.

Vice President of the European Commission for Energy Gunther Oettinger has said he is opposed to any sanctions being introduced in the gas sector. Oettinger said at the Energy Community’s ministerial meeting in Kyiv on Tuesday, Sept. 23 that his position was to avoid any sanctions in the gas sector.

Reliable, day-to-day deliveries of gas should not be a political instrument, he said.
