BRUSSELS: Chairman of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee Elmar Brok has called on the European Commission not to sign the agreement on the relaxation of visa requirements for Ukrainians before the upcoming elections to the Verkhovna Rada.

A relevant statement was posted on the Web site of the European People’s Party Group in the European Parliament.

According to him, the European Commission is considering the
possibility of proposing to sign the visa facilitation agreement with
Ukraine. However, the MEP believes that this would be the wrong thing to
do.

Brok said the EU policy towards Ukraine should be firm and consistent
and Brussels should continue to insist on clear commitments from the
Ukrainian authorities concerning the observance of democratic values and
the rule of law in the country.
