The Central Election Commission (CEC) will call repeat elections in five single-seat constituencies only after the Verkhovna Rada adopts a respective law and the Cabinet of Ministers determines the amount of funding for these elections, CEC member Mykhailo Okhendovsky has said.

“The CEC could call a repeat election of people’s deputies of Ukraine in five single-seat constituencies only when there are necessary legal grounds for that,” he told reporters on Thursday, while answering a question from Interfax-Ukraine.

“The situation is currently completely resolved for the CEC. There are currently no grounds in the law on parliamentary elections to take a decision to call repeat elections and set a date for their holding,” he said.

Okhendovsky also said that the CEC had “asked the Verkhovna Rada and the Cabinet of Ministers to take the decisions that are needed for the calling of repeat elections.”

He reiterated that the issue concerned the introduction of amendments to legislation and the amount of funding in the state budget.

Okhendovsky said that there were currently no grounds to say that the CEC would not establish the election results in other single-seat constituencies, apart from the abovementioned five. He recalled that the CEC had decided that it is impossible to establish the results in constituencies Nos. 94, 132, 194, 197, and 223.

Okhendovsky noted that CEC planned to approve the parliament election results in 220 single-seat constituencies.
