A Ukrainian lawmaker from the Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defense Bloc and the emergencies minister of the shadow government, Yuriy Hrymchak, has said that wildfires recently broke out in the Chornobyl exclusion zone, bringing smoke to Kyiv and Chernihiv regions, and the city of Kyiv.

"When the smoke was seen in Kyiv, I obtained information that fires were reported in the exclusion zone, which caused concern about levels of radiation in Kyiv itself," he said during an Internet conference on the Web portal of LigaBusinessInform on Thursday.

The press service of the Ukrainian Emergencies Ministry refused to comment on the situation in the Chornobyl exclusion zone.

Smoke was observed in Kyiv on July 31 and August 1-2.
