DONETSK - The Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) has said the situation in Shyrokyne has not improved.

The SMM is concerned by the general situation near the village of Shyrokyne; monitors have been patrolling and visiting the village since June 9, whenever possible, and the security situation there remains tense, an SMM representative told reporters.

On June 19 SMM observers at the observation posts west of Shyrokyne saw and heard various explosions, mortar fire coming in and out, as well as small-arms fire, he said.

The OSCE also said that its monitors continue performing their duties and doing all they can within their mandate to ensure full implementation of the Minsk agreements.

The main goal of SMM visits to Shyrokyne and other populated areas is to gather information, report on the security situation and establish facts, in particular, about specific local incidents and events, the SMM representative said.

The SMM also continues to monitor the humanitarian situation, the official said.
