You're reading: OSCE could consider Russia’s proposal to have monitors at checkpoints bordering Ukraine on July 17 or earlier

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) said it did not rule out that the Russian initiative to invite OSCE monitors to the Donetsk and Gukovo checkpoint could be considered at an unscheduled meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council.

Regular meetings of the OSCE Permanent Council will take place on July 17 and this issue might be considered, though it can not be said for certain as the decision will depend on the Swiss chairmanship in the OSCE, deputy of the OSCE official representative Natasha Rajkovic told Interfax. Representatives of the Swiss chairmanship will decide whether this will be an urgent meeting or whether the initiative will be discussed on July 17, she said.

The final decision will be made following consultations of OSCE participating states, Rajkovic said.
