The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) will engage nearly 1,000 experts to observe preparations for and the carrying out of the Ukrainian presidential election of May 25 this year, Swiss ambassador to Ukraine Christian Schoenenberger said.

‘The observers will arrive in Ukraine in three stages. So-called ‘core team’ has already arrived, about 100 persons will come within next few days,’ he said at the press conference hosted by Interfax-Ukraine on March 20.

According to the Swiss ambassador, 900 short-term observers to monitor election proceedings will arrive in Ukraine a week in advance.

As reported, on March 20, OSCE/ODIHR formally launched a mission to observe the Ukrainian presidential election of May 25, 2014.

“The mission will assess the entire election process for compliance with OSCE commitments and other international standards for democratic elections, as well as with national legislation. Observers will monitor the legislative framework and its implementation, the work of the election administration and relevant government bodies, campaign activities, media coverage and the resolution of election disputes,” mission head Tana de Zulueta told a press conference in Kyiv on March 20.
