The OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) has reported that the Feb. 10 shelling of Kramatorsk, Donetsk region, originated from the south-south-east direction with the use of a BM-30 Smerch or a Tornado multiple rocket launcher.

The SMM said in its report, posted on the OSCE website, that after the shelling their observers found three unexploded ordnances in the streets of Kramatorsk.

“The SMM assessed that the three shells were 300mm ammunition fired from a BM-30 Smerch or Tornado Multiple Rocket Launch System (MRLS). Based on the live observation, the pictures and maps analysis, the SMM assessed that the shelling was coming from the south-south-east direction,” the report reads.

However, the monitors have not yet conducted any crater analysis for security reasons, the mission said.

The monitors said they heard a powerful explosion in Kramatorsk at 11.51 on Tuesday. From their position they assessed that the sound of the explosion came from approximately 1.5 kilometers south-east, near Kramatorsk airport, where the Ukrainian authorities had deployed an anti-terrorist operation (ATO) base.

An official from Donetsk Region Administration told the SMM that the shelling in Kramatorsk killed seven civilians and injured 26, including five children.

In addition, 32 Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel were injured at Kramatorsk airport.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian president’s envoy for Donbas settlement MP Iryna Heraschenko said that the death toll of the Kramatorsk shelling had risen to 16, with 65 people injured.
