Rostov-on-Don - The OSCE Council has decided to enlarge the number of observers deployed in the Rostov region on the Russian-Ukrainian border, a source in the regional government's information policy department told Interfax on Friday, Nov. 21.

“The number of observers will grow from 19 to 22. In the opinion of chief OSCE monitor in the Rostov region, French national Paul Picard, the enlarged number of workers will improve the mission’s performance and adjust their timetable from twelve to eight hours of daily presence in the border zone,” he said.

A total of 39,370 Ukrainian citizens, among them 11,711 children, are staying in the Rostov region at present. Four shelters in the Neklinovsky district of the Rostov region accommodate 1,083 people.

The source reminded Interfax of the extended period of the mission’s presence in the region.

Earlier reports said the mandate of the OSCE monitors stationed at the Russian Gukovo and Donetsk checkpoints on the Ukrainian border had been extended until Dec. 23.
