You're reading: Ukrainian Foreign Ministry: OSCE monitors should work along entire Russian-Ukrainian border

Observers of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) should be placed along the entire perimeter of the Russian-Ukrainian border in order to ensure full-fledged border monitoring, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has said.

“Measures to conduct effective monitoring on the Russian-Ukrainian
border, which will help prevent the supply of arms and infiltration of
militants from Russia into Ukraine, will require the presence of OSCE
monitors along the entire perimeter of the Russian-Ukrainian border,”
the Ukrainian ministry said in a commentary on Thursday evening, July 24.

The debate that accompanied discussions on this issue at the OSCE
Permanent Council confirms that most OSCE member-states share this
opinion, it said.

“We hope that, as far as this issue is concerned, the Russian side
will be ready not only to show ‘goodwill gestures,’ about which so much
has been said by its representatives during the preparation of the OSCE
Permanent Council decision, but also to take practical steps to honor
its commitments within the OSCE and bilateral agreements,” the ministry
said.
