Ilkka Kanerva, the president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (PA OSCE), will visit Ukraine to enhance the OSCE's role in settling the situation in eastern Ukraine, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mariana Betsa said.

“OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Ilkka Kanerva will be visiting Ukraine on November 10-13 this year. The purpose of the visit is to look for opportunities to upgrade the OSCE’s role in a political settlement of the situation in eastern Ukraine,” Betsa told Interfax-Ukraine on Nov. 10 evening.

Kanerva is set to meet with Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Groysman, Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin and head of the Verkhovna Rada’s permanent delegation to the OSCE PA Artur Herasimov.

Kanerva also plans to visit eastern regions of Ukraine to get firsthand information on the situation, she said.

“The OSCE PA’s involvement in settling the situation in Ukraine and outside it, the OSCE SMM [Special Monitoring Mission] activities, the implementation of the Minsk agreements and the outcomes of the local elections of October 25 are expected to be addressed,” Betsa said.
