You're reading: OSCE welcomes constructive role of Belarus in Ukraine issue

James Walsh, the head of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly delegation of observers, spoke positively about the role of Belarus in resolving the political conflict in Ukraine.

Walsh told a press conference in Minsk on Oct. 12 that he welcomes the constructive role of Belarus in the dialogue on Ukraine issues in the light of the conflicts taking place in the world.

He also said Belarusian citizens’ concerns about the conflict in Ukraine played a role in the presidential election campaign in Belarus.

The focusing of people’s attention on the Ukraine issue was inevitable, he said.

Walsh said the presidential candidates made the most use of the people’s concerns during the election campaign.

Presidential elections took place in Belarus on Oct. 11, 2015. Incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko won the elections.
