You're reading: OSCE/ODIHR head concerned about reports on pressure on members of CEC, other election commissions

Head of the OSCE/ODIHR mission Tana de Zulueta at a meeting with the head of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Mykhailo Okhendovsky, has expressed concern about the reports on pressure on the members of the CEC and other election commissions, the CEC press service has said.

“The periodic pressure put by certain political forces on the commission is a destabilizing factor for the whole electoral process. And that’s why the OSCE/ODIHR mission is closely following the development of events around the Central Election Commission,” she said.

However, she stressed that in her opinion, as well as the view of her colleagues, the CEC took strong and effective efforts for holding the local elections on October 25, 2015.

In response Okhendovsky told the OSCE/ODIHR members that the commission members have no other alternative but to continue fulfilling their duties despite the continuing attempts to discredit the commission in the eyes of the Ukrainian society.
