You're reading: Over 200 Russians with ‘extremist’ record banned from entering Ukraine

The Ukrainian State Border Guard Service has prevented more than 200 Russian nationals "who had been involved in extremist activities and had very radical attitudes" from entering Ukraine since March 6, an assistant to the head of the service said on May 16.

Head of the State Border Service assistant Serhiy Astakhov told at the news conference that the border guard had
handed files on those Russians to the Ukrainian Security Service for
“filtration measures.”

The border guard has altogether barred more than 20,000 Russians from entering the country since March 4, Astakhov said.

He said each case of entry prevention had been based on Ukrainian law.

He also said rapid reaction groups were been posted at all border
checkpoints to keep “extremists” out, and that the border had been put
under tighter control.

He denied allegations that numerous groups of saboteurs are penetrating Ukraine from Moldova’s breakaway Transdniestria region.
