You're reading: Over 400,000 schoolchildren on vacation due to severe frosts

Due to the sharp decline in air temperature in Ukraine, 3,200 secondary schools having a total of 418,700 pupils have been closed, the official Web site of the government reported on Tuesday.

The largest numbers of schools was closed in Ivano-Frankivsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr and Rivne regions.

Ukrainian Emergency Situations Ministry reported on Tuesday that thirty people have frozen to death in Ukraine over the period of severe frost, with 21 dying on the streets.

Authorities have opened 1,590 shelters to provide food and heat.
