A trilateral group to implement Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko's peace plan in the east of Ukraine has reached a ceasefire agreement in Donetsk on June 23, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Andriy Parubiy said.
“Agreement has been reached to cease fire, release the hostages and ensure the possibility of rebuilding infrastructure in the region,” Parubiy said on ICTV on June 23.
The ceasefire agreement was reached during the Donetsk meeting of the Ukraine-Russia-OSCE contact group on settling the situation in Donbas, he said.
“Literally during these hours Ukrainian specialists have been repairing the water supply in Sloviansk,” he said.
As was reported, representatives of Ukraine, the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) and Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR), and the Russian Federation held multilateral talks at Donetsk Regional State Administration on June 23.
Participating in the talks were Russian Ambassador to Ukraine Mikhail Zurabov, representative for the OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) chairman-in-office Heidi Tagliavini, second president of independent Ukraine Leonid Kuchma, Ukrainian Choice movement leader Viktor Medvedchuk, South-East movement leader Oleh Tsariov, and DPR and LPR representatives.
Before leaving for Donetsk, the contact group had met with Poroshenko in Kyiv.
The first tripartite meeting of the contact group took place in Kyiv on June 8. Ukraine was represented by the then Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany Pavlo Klimkin, who was later appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
