Secretary of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Andriy Parubiy has said that Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is personally overseeing the situation with the Aidar 24th territorial defense battalion.

“I am confident that the misunderstanding with the leak of
information is most likely the result of bureaucracy, rather than
political actions,” he said, while answering a question from battalion
commander Serhiy Melnychuk regarding the reports of the liquidation of
the battalion on the Freedom of Speech program on the ICTV television
channel Monday.

Parubiy praised the actions of soldiers from this battalion.

“Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has personally taken control of
the situation and suspended all actions and orders with respect to the
24th territorial defense battalion, and I’m sure that Poroshenko will
track the situation and will only make the correct decision regarding
the Aidar battalion,” he said.

As reported, four soldiers of the 24th Aidar territorial defense
battalion were killed in an attack on militants near Luhansk on June 17.

Later it was reported that the Defense Ministry had reportedly
announced its intention to disband the battalion due to the decision of
its representatives to attack the militants without the consent of the
leadership of the anti-terrorist operation.
