You're reading: Parubiy says more than half of militants in Ukraine’s eastern regions come from Russian territory

 Militants fighting government troops in Ukraine's regions of Donetsk and Luhansk number "between 15.000 and 20.000 militants" in total, and "more than half of them have come across from Russian territory," the secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council, Andriy Parubiy, said on June 16.

 Parubiy, who was speaking at a briefing in Kyiv, also announced that the government was planning to evacuate civilians from areas where fighting is in progress, and that at the moment it was working on evacuation plans for Sloviansk and Luhansk.
