Moscow, February 20 (Interfax) - Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia will visit Kyiv next week at Ukrainian President-Elect Viktor Yanukovych's invitation to conduct a public prayer service at the Kyiv-Pechersk Laura monastery before Yanukovych's presidential inauguration. "Metropolitan Vladimir of Kyiv and All Ukraine will also take part in the prayer service, which will take place on February 25," Archpriest Nikolai Balashov, a deputy head of the Moscow Patriarchate's External Church Relations Department, told Interfax-Religion (www.interfax-religion.ru) on Saturday.

Why is the leader of a foreign church presiding in Ukraine?

Does Ukraine not have its own religious leaders?

Bad signal that the KGB controlled Russian Orthodox Church is now going to lead Ukraine in prayer!

I would take it as a sign that they're now in the Kremlin's sphere. We know there's no separation between church and state in Russia.

You western uke diaspora people are ignorant and idiots. Krill is the patriarch of the Ukrainian Orthodox church-Moscow Patriarch. Just so you know, they have jurisdiction of St.Sophia,Pechersk Lavra,Pochaiv among others.

The Russians don't belong in "St.Sophia,Pechersk Lavra,Pochaiv among others", you Russian stooge, and some day they will leave, you can be sure of that.

They are Holy Ukrainian Places.

This guy should be declared "persona non grata" in Ukraine since he is a Russian political stooge who represents Russian chauvinism and expansionism as did his predecessors, not Christian love and brotherhood. As the leader of a foreign state church, he should just stay in Russia where he belongs unless the Patriach of Greece and the Pope and other Patriachs too come to Ukraine before the inauguration.

the talmud and the koran similar n their approach,,

they hate every one who does not accept the supremacy of their nonsence...

well, there is no harm in that,,

Christianity teaches to love, the koran teaches to hate, and the talmud teaches u how to kill in details

i had read the talmud,,, it is a study n torture, racism hatred arrogance and wickedness.. the vanity of evils

it describe in cold blood and detail, how to kill people, most painfully and viciously,,, the koran next to the talmud could be a nice book

The Patriarch of Russia is a patriarch of Ukraine also. In the midle ages the Pope tried to convert orthodox priests by promising them that they can marry and be priests. It was done by a papal UNIA. And to this day they are called Uniats. They become Greco-Catolics The Orthodox Church in Kiyv moved to Moskovy and never moved back. It is still the same church, just called church of all Russia. Plural. why doesn't Spain have a Pope or France for that matter. You remember when the Patriarch of Konstantinopol came to Ukraine few years back Youshchenko ask him to give Ukraine a separate church the patriarch said: The church is one and not to be divided for political whims of the moment.

When Ukraine became a Christian country in 988 AD there was no Moscow, there was no Russia and there were no Christians in Russia except for Kyivan princes, ie. today Ukrainians, who were ruling over the Finno-Ugric population in one of Kyiv's far flung provinces.

Kyiv Church did not move to Maskva, it was forced to move there. If you dont want to be divided then submit to the Patriarch of Constantinople, the original Orthodox Church.

1. Alright how about this logic, The Maskva-Patriarch should only have jurisdiction over a few Churches in the South-East, and nothing more. Historically Maskva Church is the younger one of the two! Or you should completely submit to Kyiv, since the Mongols are long gone, and Kyiv is as you say "your" capital of Russia. lol.

Before coming to Ukraine this Patriarch nees to recognize the Ukrainian Orthodox Patriarch of Kyiv and renounce his Un-Christian behavior towards the Ukrainian nation. In other words he needs to repent of his evil towards the Ukrainian people and stay in Russia until he does so.

Hmm, maybe we should send the Greek-Catholic Patriarch to Maskva when Putin becomes President 4 life? I wonder how the Katsapy would react to that? Prob think some new "Western" conspiracy is at hand once more. Boogeyman West...how scary. 5 colona Rosiji.

Yeah, the devil himself would test his faith and try to make hit submit to the FSB/Kremlin. First the Kremlin should apologize for killing several thousands of Greek-Catholic clergy in the 1939-1991. And for the persecution of the Church...the one Church that refused to cooperate with the KGB. While your past Moskovite Patriarch was its ring-leader.

Many nitwit comments from the Lvov diaspora here. I wonder what part of the ground they sprang up from. It's easy to see why they hold such a minority view in Ukraine today.

If you feel strongly offended about Patriarch Krill, then stop shouting, pack your bags and jump back on your back to Ukraine. After you and your families forsaked and abandoned your own country, then you lost your voice as to what should be done there.

Krill is the patriarch of the Ukrainian Orthodox church-Moscow Patriarch. They have jurisdiction of St.Sophia,Pechersk Lavra,Pochaiv among others. They currently have a legal right to be there after the patriarch of Ukraine in 1686 went to live in Moscow. There are some questions as to whether Patriarch Filaret (a rather shady person himself in past days) should be the rightful head of the Kiev Patriarche.

Ukraine is now an independent country. Many things were done incorrectly after the fall of the Evil Empire and some properties were given to the Muscovite Church. This was wrong and someday it WILL be corrected. Not long ago one could go to prison for flying the Ukrainian blue and yellow national flag in Ukraine under the Soviet Russian occupation, NO LONGER. Some day the Lavra and St. Sophia will revert to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church just as surely as the Jews will rebuild their ancient Temple on Mount Moriah even though currently the Ishmaelites have jurisdiction there.

There is only one true Church and everyone who believes in Jesus Christ is a member. Relgious leaders of whatever denomination do not have the right to trespass against the wishes of Christians in other countries and lay claim to property that was illegally taken from those Christians. The Russians need to just get their filthy hands off of Ukrainian property and that includes leaving Crimea after 2017.

Mr Yanukovich was elected as the President of Ukraine by the people of entire Ukraine.not just the small farm villages in West Ukraine. It is imporant for you to know that your opinion along with the small west ukraine is a minority opinion.

He has stated that one of his first priorities is to extend the Crimea lease on the black sea fleet. Your prediction that Russia will leave after 2017 is completely wrong.

Elected by the entire Ukraine? lol, no he was elected by 46% of 60% of the Population that cared to vote, and the majority of them from the Coal-mines...unemployed people who for $20 would vote for Communism if they communist party could afford such a proposal.

Yanukovich represents a minority as well.

It is not a spin, its reality, Guest is wrong in stating that the "Majority" of Ukrainians want Yanukovich, only the small majority who 1 actually voted.

Keep Russia in Russia and keep Ukraine in Ukraine. Just another attempt for the Kremlin to sneak into Ukraine. Kirill has his lips kissing the Kremlin rear end tighter than kissing the hand of God. Just shows how low the Kremlin AND the Moscow church will stoop. Lock everything up and check his pockets before he boards the plane back Moscow.
