Ukraine celebrates the Independence Day. In the morning, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko laid flowers to the monuments of Volodymyr Velykyi, Taras Shevchenko and Mykhailo Hrushevskyi, as well as to the Cross of Nebesna Sotnya.

Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Turchynov, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, Presidents of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk, Leonid Kuchma and Viktor Yushchenko, Kyiv RSA Head Volodymyr Shandra, representatives of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Presidential Administration and the public also laid flowers to the monument of Volodymyr Velykyi.

On Instytutska St, where fierce battles between Maidan activists and law enforcers took place in February, the President and his family honored the memory of Nebesna Sotnya Heroes. Petro and Maryna Poroshenko put icon-lamps to the memorial Cross.

The President had a conversation with people who came to Khreshchatyk to watch the parade. Petro Poroshenko congratulated everyone on the holiday. People asked the President to do everything to return peace to the country as soon as possible. They expressed support to the Head of State. ‘We believe in you,’ they said. At the request of one of the men to let him approach the President, Petro Poroshenko told to do so and said that he was willing to be an open-faced President.
