Petro Poroshenko, a Ukrainian presidential candidate who, according to polls, has the best chances of winning the upcoming elections has vowed to make public draft amendments to the Ukrainian constitution immediately after the elections.

“A version of constitutional amendments, their key element being the decentralization of power, will be presented right after the inauguration,” Poroshenko said at a press conference in Sumy on May 15.

The work on a government decentralization program has been completed, and this reform will be based on a Polish model, Poroshenko said. He referred to an agreement with Poland on setting up a foundation for assisting local self-government bodies, and Polish experts and advisers will help carry out the reform in Ukraine.

Poroshenko said also there is an agreement on applying an electronic government system in Ukraine, “which will significantly reduce corruption.”
