MADRID — Officials say 28 people have been arrested in Spain on suspicion of being linked to an international child pornography network that abused Ukrainian children.

The investigation began when Interpol told
Spanish police in April about a network headquartered in Toronto,
Canada, dedicated to the sale of child pornography videos. Spain’s
Interior Ministry said Saturday that the videos were created by abusing
minors in Ukraine, Romania and Germany.

The
recordings have been sold through three websites and distributed in 94
countries, netting an estimated annual income of $1.6 million, the
ministry says. The network operated in
Europe and Canada.

In addition to the 28 arrested in Spain, 10 other Spaniards have been charged with offenses, the ministry says.
