You're reading: Police: No public disturbances reported during May Day celebrations in Ukraine

May Day celebrations have passed in Ukraine without gross violations of public order, the media liaisons office of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry has reported.

A total of 380 mass events dedicated to International Workers’ Day were held in 236 cities, towns and villages in Ukraine as of 1300 on Wednesday. About 200,000 people participated in the events.

The events were mainly organized by the Communist Party, the Socialist Party and the Progressive Socialist Party, as well as local government agencies.

The largest number of people gathered for May Day events in Crimea – over 80,000 people, in Sevastopol – 50,000, in Zaporizhia region – 16,000, and in Kyiv – about 10,000 people.

Over 5,500 police officers and 650 servicemen of the Interior Ministry troops are guarding public order in all parts of the country. In particular, over 1,600 law enforcement officers are maintaining public order in Kyiv.

“There were no gross violations of public order,” the ministry said.
