BRUSSELS - Polish Defense Minister Tomasz Siemoniak said on Dec. 23 that Ukraine, in his opinion, is certain to become a member of NATO and the European Union.

“We will see the time when Ukraine will be in NATO and the EU. Ukraine should meet European standards and the Ukrainian society should be confident it wants to be a member of NATO. No one has the right to hamper this,” the minister said on the air of Polish Radio.

According to Siemoniak, Kyiv’s decision to abolish the country’s non-aligned status will not affect Ukraine’s relations with Russia. This relationship has already been spoiled, he explained.

As earlier reported the Verkhovna Rada adopted on Wednesday amendments to the laws regulating the country’s domestic and foreign policy, as well as national security principles, repealing Ukraine’s non-aligned status.
