You're reading: Poll: Almost 40% of Ukrainians call opposition powerless

More than a third of Ukrainians think that the opposition has no influence on the national situation, the Research Branding Group said in its report presented at the Interfax-Ukraine office on Thursday.

That is the opinion of 38% of the respondents, it said.

Twenty percent believe that the opposition has a generally negative effect on the national situation, and 22% believe that the effect is generally positive.

Forty-three percent say that Ukraine has an opposition, 42% give the opposite opinion, and 15% are unable to answer the question.

The majority of the Ukrainians (74%) think that a strong opposition is necessary for the stable development of Ukraine.

Fifty-seven percent think that the involvement of opposition members in the national government will build up the latter’s efficiency.

Forty-five percent say that the Ukrainian opposition has neither constructive programs nor ideas; it does nothing but criticizes the authorities and causes destabilization with the goal of raising its own rating.

The group polled 2,076 people in 24 regions of Ukraine and the Crimea on Oct. 2-12, 2011. The error is under 2.2%.
