A poll has revealed that the overwhelming majority of Ukrainians want to join the customs union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.

A total of 52.7% of Ukrainians said that Ukraine should create an international consortium with Russia and EU member states to modernize local gas pipelines. Some 21.4% believe that the consortium should be formed only with Russia, a gas supplier, and 8.9% favor a consortium with the EU only.

Some 8.1% believe that the consortium is unnecessary, and 8.9% were unsure.

For the poll, the Kyiv Gorshenin Institute of Management Issues polled 1,000 respondents by phone across all Ukrainian regional centers, Kyiv and Sevastopol on February 20-22.
