You're reading: Poll: Over half of Ukrainians want extension of Black Sea Fleet presence in Ukraine

Over half of Ukrainians (56.4%) polled by the Gorshenin Institute on April 24-26, 2010 said they are positive about the decision to extend the presence of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Ukraine until 2047.

The poll surveys 1,000 respondents aged over 18 in all regional centers of Ukraine, including Kyiv and Sevastopol. The respondents were grouped by region of residence, gender and age. The poll has a margin of error of 3.2%.

An estimated 37% of the respondents surveyed said they are negative about the presence of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Ukraine and 6.5% of the respondents said they are undecided on the matter.

Over half of Ukrainians (60.5%) believe the treaty on the presence of the Russian Black Sea in Ukraine until 2047 does not pose a threat to Ukraine’s sovereignty, while an estimated 31.8% of the respondents said they believe the document threatens Ukraine’s sovereignty. A total of 7.8% of the respondents said they are undecided on the matter.
