You're reading: Poll shows majority of Ukrainians support decentralization

The majority of Ukrainians support the decentralization of power in the country, according to the results of a poll conducted by TNS.

Around 52 percent of Ukrainians feel positive about decentralization (18 percent are fully positive, 34 percent – somewhat positive), 14 percent – negative (11 percent – somewhat negative, 3 percent – negative). In addition, 22 percent of those polled said they felt neutral about decentralization, and 13 percent found it difficult to answer.

Residents of eastern and central regions were more likely to support decentralization – 23 percent and 20 percent respectively, however there is less support in northern and southern oblasts – 10 percent and 11 percent respectively.

Men support decentralization more than women, with 25 percent and 12 percent in favor respectively.

The poll, the eight conducted by TNS, was carried out between Aug. 12 and Aug. 19 through on-line polling of urban residents. The targeted audience was men and women aged 18-55. In total, 1,000 people quoted by gender, age, region and population of their locality took part in the poll.
