You're reading: Poll: Third of Ukrainians wish Ukraine’s accession to Customs Union

Thirty percent of the Ukrainians would like Ukraine to join the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, while 29% think that Ukraine should not join any unions, according to a poll done by Research & Branding Group on 12-20 Aug..

Twenty-two percent of the respondents said they would like to be a part of united Europe, 5% preferred the CIS (whose member Ukraine currently is), and 7% advocated the reunion of all republics of the former Soviet Union.

Thirty-seven percent of the respondents said that Ukraine and Russia had good and neighborly relations, and 38% said the relations were as good as bad. Twenty-one percent said the relations were tense and bad.

The number of the Ukrainians praising the bilateral relations dropped since December 2010, and the number of negative opinions enlarged.

Sixty-four percent of the Ukrainians said they had a generally positive impression from Russia: 26% described it as a fraternal country, 25% said it was a friendly state, and 13% said it was a strategic partner of Ukraine. One percent described Russia as a hostile state.

The sociologists polled 2,078 people in 24 regions of Ukraine and Crimea. The respondents were selected by the place of residence, gender and age. The error is around 2.2%.
