You're reading: Pope Francis sends greetings to Ukraine on Independence Day

Pope Francis has sent greetings to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on the occasion of the 23rd anniversary since Ukraine gained independence. 

The pontiff conveyed “his cordial wishes of wellbeing and peace” to all Ukrainians, the presidential press service reported.

“In current situation, I would like to wish that the people of Ukraine will be able to move the path of development, conciliation and peace. I ask Almighty God to generously bless all residents of the country, as well as executives, giving them the grace to live in harmony and brotherhood,” Pope Francis was quoted as saying.
